Religion

Text Faith First: RCL publishing
Our main emphasis is to learn what we believe as a Catholic, discuss how we worship and implement these in our lives. We attend Mass weekly.

Reading

Trophies: Harcourt publishing
All year we work on building vocabulary, comprehension and fluency. We take the STAR test to find our reading zone. Quarterly we set AR goals. We are working each night reading for pleasure in our W.E.B. Folders.

Language Arts

Language Arts: McGraw-Hill publishing
We study grammar units and 6 trait writing. We do weekly spelling tests. Third grade uses Daily Oral Language to work on capitalization, punctuation and usage skills. We include a personal narrative and explanatory writing in our writing folders. This is our first year to learn cursive.

Science

Science: Scott Foresman publishing
We are developing our skills in doing inquiry science. Our units include animal life cycles, chemical reactions, properties of matter, and earth materials. We use STC and FOSS kits as well as supplemental reading material.

Math

Everyday Mathematics: SRA/McGraw-Hill publishing
We focus on addition and subtraction, as well as introducing multiplication and division. We also have geometry, fractions, measurement and probability. We do pretests to determine who will work on Challenge Math packets, and we extend our problem solving through these packets.

Social Studies

Communities: Scott Foresman publishing
Our studies focus on communities around the U.S. We discuss geography, location, climate and resources. We use the Weekly Reader to keep up on current events.

Keyboarding

This is our first year for learning keyboarding skills.
We use the Type-to Learn program.
