Student Drop Off & Pick Up Procedures

School arrival and dismissal:

The safety and security of our elementary community is our priority. Our arrival and dismissal procedures for the 2019-2020 school year will help us to:

  • continue to ensure that only approved individuals will pick-up your child
  • reduce traffic (vehicle and people) in the bus lanes
  • reduce access to our building and children without an approved purpose

Students who ride the bus to and from school:

Students riding the bus to and from school have simple routines. Students will enter the school directly from the bus and immediately proceed to the gymnasium or classroom – depending on their time of arrival.

Students riding the bus home will be monitored and dismissed from their classroom according to the time of their departure.

Staff will be monitoring the sidewalks and the halls to supervise these transitions.

 

Car drop-off/pick-up:

Drop-Off

Students may be dropped off in the gymnasium beginning at 7:30am.

Students will enter the school directly from the car drop off zone and immediately proceed to the gymnasium or classroom – depending on their time of arrival. Staff will be on-hand to guide students and monitor the sidewalks and halls to supervise these transitions.

Students arriving by car should always use the west school entrance on the west end of Avenue C (the gymnasium door with the ramp).

For the safety of the students we request that you only drop off/pick up using the south lane of Avenue C, closest to the school and traveling east (towards 5th St.). This will eliminate students cutting across traffic to get to the building or car. Parents/guardians are to use the drop off zone on the west side of Avenue C, in front of the gymnasium ramp entrance.

There will be no parking for any amount of time in the drop off zone. You may stop and let your child out, but after the child is safely out, the car must keep moving forward to allow traffic through. Should you need to enter the building with your child for any reason during pick up and drop off times, please utilize the church parking lot. Do not park on Avenue C. Go directly to the main office and complete the sign in process for access to the building.

Pick-Up

Students being picked up by a parent or guardian will be monitored by staff in the front vestibule until a parent or guardian arrives to pick them up.

Elementary dismissal is at 3:10pm (1:40pm on early dismissal days). Upon dismissal students will be escorted to the front vestibule and available for pick up by an approved person.

 

Pick-up/Drop-off During School Day and Parent Access Procedures:

Our school day runs from 8:20am-3:10pm. Any student who comes to school after 8:20am, or who leaves before 3:10pm, will need to be signed in/out at the main office. Students who are removed from class prior to 3:10pm will require written parent/guardian permission. Prior notice is appreciated.

When picking-up in the middle of the day you will be asked to wait in the lobby for your child. We will make every effort to have students ready to go at the designated time given on your prior notice.

Parents/Guardians who are picking up during the school day or dropping an item off are invited to temporarily park on the northside of Avenue C. If the visit is anticipated to be longer than 10 minutes, please park in the church parking lot.

During the school day there will be no parking on the southside of Avenue C (7:30am – 4pm). These lanes will need to be kept clear for emergencies, buses, student drop-off/pick-up, and through traffic.

Parents/guardians are welcome to escort their child to their classroom from 8:05am – 8:20am. However, we still ask that you adhere to the pick-up/drop-off procedures outlined above and park in the church parking lot while you accompany your child into the building. If dropping off before 8:05am students will need to be dropped off with staff at gymnasium.

Staff will only dismiss students to the approved individuals on file. Parents/Guardians must notify the office of a change to the pick up list prior to students being dismissed.

Should parents/guardians need to enter the building during the school day, you will be required to sign in and out at the main office, you will also be asked to present a valid photo ID. Once signed in you will be given a visitor pass and escorted by staff to your designated area.
